My name is John Meuser and I am running for Indiana State House District 99 for the Libertarian Party. I have never held political office before and will serve as a "citizen legislator" if elected. I will take no corporate or labor lobbyist donations and will only be answerable to the voters who elect me.
I apologize for the lack of content on this site. I had intended to do much more with it but for various personal reasons was not able to get to it.
What is a Libertarian?
One of the most common questions I get when I tell people that I am running for office under the Libertarian party is what exactly a Libertarian is. My short answer is that we want to keep the government out of your pocketbook and out of your bedroom, we support both social and economic freedom.
Why are you running?
As a 28 year old with no previous political experience running for a minor party, I am often asked why I am running. The primary reason is that I have become increasingly disenfranchised by the American political system. The duopoly that the Republicans and Democrats have on the political process has done nothing but harm the voting public for quite some time. They are both robbing Peter to pay Paul and the only difference between them is who gets to play which role. Regardless of what candidates at the top of the ticket might say, there will be no change no matter which major party gets in. The only way that significant change will happen is if we start electing people without D's and R's next to their name.
Another major reason that I wanted to run in this race is because my Democratic opponent, Vanessa Summers, would have most likely not had a challenger otherwise. The Republicans did not run anyone for the seat, and no other Libertarian was stepping up. Allowing an elected representative to get reelected without any challenger at all is a complete breakdown of the democratic process.
